Upbit Hit by $36M Hot-Wallet Hack.
Solana assets drained, operations paused, users to be reimbursed.

This one stung to read over my morning café: Upbit, the biggest exchange in South Korea, confirmed a $36M exploit after attackers drained their Solana hot wallet on November 27. A mix of BONK, MOODENG, TRUMP, several DeFi tokens, $SOL and USDC vanished before the team could lock things down.

Upbit immediately froze certain operations and shifted funds to cold storage. Some of the stolen assets are already frozen, but the full recovery will take time. Their parent company Dunamu says they’ll fully reimburse users, which is at least a breath of relief — but still, quelle galère for a platform of this size.

Incidents like this are a sober reminder: security in crypto is never “done.” Even giants can slip, and one hot-wallet vulnerability can turn into millions evaporating in minutes. Down here by the sea, I felt that familiar chill — trust is fragile, and exchanges need to treat it like glass.

Let’s see how fast Upbit gets its systems back online after the full audit.
