The SEC finally drew lines in the sand.

The SEC finally drew lines in the sand.
Clear custody rules for crypto brokers are here — not new laws, but a clear interpretation of the old ones.
Reading this, I felt a strange mix of relief and tension. Relief, because ambiguity is poison for markets. Tension, because the vision is very… TradFi. The SEC says: full control by brokers, private keys locked away from clients, strict network risk analysis, emergency plans for forks and even bankruptcies. Basically: “You custody it, you own the headache.”
From a regulatory point of view, it makes sense. If crypto-assets are treated like securities, then custody must look boring, robust, and centralized. No shared keys, no grey zones, no excuses. Brokers become vaults, not facilitators.
But from a crypto soul perspective? It’s bittersweet. This is Bitcoin and crypto being translated into the language of suits and compliance. Necessary for institutions, yes. Friendly to cypherpunk ideals… not really. Still, clarity beats fear. Markets can price rules. They can’t price confusion.
So here we are. Crypto growing up, one compliance memo at a time. Pas très sexy, but effective 🧱
