Singapore gets tough on cybercrime.
New law brings fines, jail — and caning 😬🇸🇬
Singapore has just approved a strict new law targeting cyber fraud, and it’s making waves even beyond Asia. Under the updated rules, convicted men could face not only heavy fines and long prison terms, but also corporal punishment — between 6 and 24 cane strokes.
The bill has already passed parliament and will take effect in the coming months. Authorities say it’s a response to the surge in online scams and crypto-related fraud — a growing problem in one of the world’s most digital economies.
Hard to imagine such measures elsewhere, but Singapore has always preferred discipline over leniency. There, cybercrime just got literally painful.
