Crypto becomes SEC’s “number one priority.”
SEC Chairman Paul Atkins said that right now, cryptocurrency is at the very top of his agenda.
Hearing that from the head of the most powerful financial regulator hits different. For years, $BTC and $ETH were treated like noisy outsiders, a problem to be contained. Now, the same watchdog says it’s priority number one — not stocks, not bonds, not banks, but crypto.
Of course, “priority” can mean two things: embrace or crackdown. The Mediterranean in me wants to be optimistic — that this could mean clarity, rules, and maybe even space for innovation. But the realist in me knows regulators often arrive with a hammer, not an olive branch. On verra.
