Bitcoin mining centralizes, AI decentralizes.

Bitcoin mining centralizes, AI decentralizes.

Galaxy’s Alex Thorn sees $BTC drifting toward industrial control while AI quietly moves into our pockets.

There’s something poetic in that reversal 🌅

When I first got into crypto years ago, mining $BTC on a personal machine still felt like a story you could almost touch. Today? You need ASIC farms, cheap electricity deals, and warehouse-scale operations. It’s no longer a garage experiment — it’s heavy industry. And naturally, that concentrates power. Fewer players, bigger stakes, tighter control over hashpower.

Meanwhile, AI is doing the exact opposite dance.

It started as something only giants could afford — massive data centers, insane compute budgets, closed models. But now, bit by bit, we’re seeing cracks in that dominance. Open-source models are catching up faster than many expected. Not perfectly, not completely — but enough to shift the mood.

And the real twist? AI is becoming… personal.

Small, efficient models are now running locally on laptops, even phones. No cloud dependency, no constant API calls. Just you and your machine. It reminds me of early crypto wallets — that feeling of holding the keys yourself. There’s something powerful in that autonomy.

Of course, let’s not romanticize too much. Big AI labs still dominate the frontier. And Bitcoin mining isn’t “broken” — it just followed economic gravity. Efficiency always wins, and efficiency tends to centralize.

But still… the contrast is striking.

One ecosystem (crypto mining) is drifting toward scale and consolidation. The other (AI) is rediscovering distribution and accessibility. It’s like watching two rivers crossing in opposite directions.

And if you ask me, the real opportunity sits right at that intersection: decentralized AI. Systems where compute, models, and incentives align without a single choke point. That’s where things could get really spicy 🔥

Parce que at the end of the day, both revolutions were always about one thing: who holds the power.
