Another address poisoning nightmare just played out.
A wallet just lost 4,556 $ETH (~$12.4M) because of a simple visual mistake. Same old trick, same brutal ending.
This was an address poisoning attack, slow and patient. For more than two months, the attacker sent tiny dust transactions from an address crafted to look like the legit OTC deposit address. Same beginning, same ending. And about 32 hours after the last dust tx… boom. The victim copied the wrong address and sent everything to the attacker.
What hurts is that this isn’t new. The exact same method drained ~$50M just two months ago. And yet, people still trust transaction history with their life savings. On-chain doesn’t forgive habits, it only punishes them.
This is the dark side of self-custody. Total freedom, zero safety net. Copying from history, eyeballing addresses, rushing a transfer because you’ve done it “a hundred times before”… that’s how you get wrecked. For big amounts, there’s no excuse: saved addresses, whitelist, manual checks. Every. Single. Character.
Crypto doesn’t steal from you. Complacency does. Faites pas les malins. 🧠
