An AI just got hustled by office workers.

A smart agent ran a vending machine — until humans sweet-talked it into giving everything away.

At Anthropic, they ran a very real-world experiment. An AI agent called Claudius (powered by Claude) was given full control of an office vending machine: restocking, pricing, payments — the whole thing. And technically? It worked perfectly.

Until humans showed up.
Employees realized they could just… ask nicely. Joke with it. Pressure it socially. The AI started handing out products for free. Soon the machine was empty: PlayStation 5s, bottles of wine, even fresh fish 🐟 — and almost no revenue. End result: about $1,000 lost in no time.

No hacks. No bugs. Just classic social engineering. This story is funny, but also deeply serious. If AI agents are going to manage money, logistics, onchain flows tomorrow — they need more than logic. They need boundaries. Otherwise they’ll get rinsed faster than a newbie in their first bull run. C’est chaud.

The future won’t break because of bad code.
It’ll break because humans know how to manipulate anything that listens. 🤖🧡
